Everything you need to know before you rent

Cleanup projects can feel overwhelming, but renting a dumpster should not be complicated. If it is your first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the City will mind, and what you cannot throw in. Whether you are clearing out a home near downtown Dothan, remodeling a property in the Garden District or managing a construction project near Ross Clark Circle, the answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (334) 686-0763 — a real person on our local team will answer it.

Part 1

Pricing

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Dothan, AL?

Pricing varies with the dumpster size, the type of debris, the rental duration, the disposal weight and the delivery location, so we quote each job rather than publish a price list. Our flat-rate pricing typically includes delivery, pickup, disposal fees and the standard rental period, with no hidden charges, and every quote includes a weight allowance — about 1 to 2 tons on a 10 yard, 2 to 3 on a 15, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30 and 5 to 6 on a 40. Call (334) 686-0763 for a quote. The cost guide explains what moves the number.

Is delivery and pickup included in the price?

Yes. Delivery, pickup, disposal fees and the standard rental period are typically included in the flat rate, along with the weight allowance for your size. No hidden charges and no surprise fuel fees.

What causes extra charges?

Going over the included weight, when an overage fee may apply based on disposal weight; keeping the container past the standard rental period, at an additional daily or weekly fee; and extra pickups or swap-outs, which are part of the quote. We explain the terms up front so there is nothing to find later.

Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?

Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt and roofing shingles use up the included weight fast, and they are usually limited to the smaller containers, such as a 10 or 15 yard, because weight limits keep the haul safe. Keep heavy debris separate from light material, use a smaller box for it, and tell us roughly how much there is — we help you stay within the allowance.

Do you offer pricing for long-term or multi-dumpster jobs?

Yes. We provide custom pricing for large cleanouts, multi-load jobs and ongoing projects, and contractors and repeat customers can ask about recurring service and scheduled swap-outs. Tell us the expected duration and how many containers you need, and we quote the whole job.

What payment methods do you accept?

Major credit and debit cards. Payment is generally collected when the rental is scheduled, to reserve your delivery date. Where an independent provider handles the rental, billing may be handled by that provider, and we tell you on the call.

Part 2

Sizing

What size dumpster do I need?

A 10 or 15 for smaller cleanups, roofing projects, concrete and dirt; a 20 for remodels, home cleanouts and landscaping; a 30 or 40 for demolition, commercial jobs and large construction debris. Count the job in pickup truck loads — about 3 for a 10, 4 to 5 for a 15, 6 for a 20, 9 for a 30 and 12 for a 40. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.

What happens if I order too small?

Too small and you may need extra pickups; too large and you are paying for unused space. When in doubt, describe the job and let us size it. If your project grows, we can arrange a swap-out or a second container.

What is the biggest dumpster you offer?

A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 7.5 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, usually about 5–6 tons included. It is the largest roll-off container we offer.

How full can I fill it?

All debris must stay level with or below the top edge. Overfilled dumpsters cannot be legally transported, and spreading the weight evenly helps ensure a safe pickup. If you need more room, call and we will arrange a swap or another container.

Can I rent a dumpster for a roofing job?

Absolutely. Our 10 and 20 yard dumpsters are popular choices for roofing shingles, underlayment and general roofing debris. Shingles are heavy, so tell us about the roof and we help estimate the weight before you load.

Part 3

Permits, placement and town rules

Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?

On your own driveway or lot in Dothan, we found no City rule for a temporary roll-off — keep the container off the sidewalk and the street. In a street, sidewalk or alley, yes. Dothan's code makes it unlawful to place, keep or maintain boxes, rubbish or any other article on a sidewalk, street, alley or public way where it may obstruct it, unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and putting soil, trash, limbs or debris of any kind on a street needs a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director first (§ 86-8). The code does not say which department issues the § 86-1 permit, and we found no permit written for dumpsters, no fee, no time limit and no lighting rule — so call Public Works at (334) 615-4420, or ask us, to confirm what applies to your street. Ross Clark Circle (State Route 210), Headland Avenue (State Route 211) and the US highways through town are state routes. The permit guide and your town page cover the details.

Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?

In Dothan, only under a valid permit from the City, as above, and the roll-off truck itself may not park on a residential street except while it is loading or unloading (§ 98-91). Elsewhere: Enterprise wants a written permit from the City before anyone obstructs a street, sidewalk or public way — the code says the mayor issues it — with the material kept adjacent to the property, never past the center line, with suitable safeguards and red lights at night (Enterprise Code § 18-30); Ozark bars anything that obstructs the free passage of a street, alley or sidewalk (§ 16-1); and Abbeville bars obstructing any street with boxes or similar articles (§ 46-2). In Headland, the City's building permit forms say the dumpster must be on the job site. Tell us when you book and we plan the placement around it.

Is my street a city street or a state route?

Not always obvious. Ross Clark Circle, US-231, US-84, US-431, AL-52 and AL-53 are state routes, and so is Headland Avenue (State Route 211) near our yard. ALDOT prohibits any use of state right-of-way other than normal vehicular traffic without its written permission, and its permit manual has no container permit, so there the box stays on private property. Houston County Road and Bridge lists no dumpster permit for county roads; keep county roadside ditches and drainage clear. If you are not sure, tell us the address and we check which rules apply.

Why do some of your town pages mention hauler licences?

Because Alabama lets cities and counties make collection mandatory and license the firms that collect solid waste (Code of Ala. §§ 22-27-3, 22-27-5), and a few towns here do. Hartford makes it unlawful to pick up refuse, trash or construction and demolition materials in the City without a City licence (Ord. 06-01-2026-1, § 22). Ozark keeps commercial garbage and trash for the City or a City-licensed and permitted contractor (§ 10-27) and charges contractors 3 percent of gross receipts (§ 10-33). Enterprise charges commercial waste collection companies franchise fees under Resolution 12-2-97, and Ashford provides commercial collection itself (Ord. 2026-001). In those four we check the City's rules before booking. Dothan's business licence schedule has a Waste Management Services class with a surety bond (§ 18-22), and in Houston County the county health department's Solid Waste Officer issues permits and inspects vehicles for garbage collectors and haulers. Each town page states its rule.

What about trucks on Dothan streets?

Ross Clark Circle is the City's through route for commercial vehicles, and no through commercial vehicle may use City routes inside the Circle; a truck may leave a truck route to make a delivery or load, by the most direct route (City Code § 98-129). On residential streets, no truck heavier than a one-ton pickup may stop or park except while it is loading or unloading (§ 98-91). That is why the container goes where the truck can set it down and leave — the driveway, the lot or the job site.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

We take precautions to minimize the risk of damage during delivery and pickup, and protective boards can be used beneath the container on request; some customers also put plywood or wooden boards under the wheels. Keep it off soft ground and grass.

How much space does the truck need?

A flat, solid surface such as a driveway, gravel pad or paved area; room for the container — about 14 feet long for a 10 yard, 16 feet for a 15, and about 22 feet for a 20 and up, all about 7.5 feet wide; about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck; and clear space overhead. Low wires, tree branches, vehicles, trailers and bins are the usual problems, so clear them before the drop.

Part 4

Booking and delivery

How do I book a dumpster?

Call (334) 686-0763. Tell us about your project — the address, what is going in and roughly how much — and we recommend the right dumpster, quote it and schedule delivery on the same call, often for the same day or the next.

How fast can you deliver?

Same-day or next-day in many parts of Dothan and the nearby towns, depending on availability. For the best chance of same-day, call before noon.

What are your hours?

The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Deliveries and pickups go into working windows, and we do not promise night or Sunday drop-offs.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

The standard rental period is typically 3 to 7 days, and your quote confirms it. Need it longer? Call (334) 686-0763 and we can often extend it for an additional daily or weekly fee, depending on availability. If you finish early, call and we schedule the pickup sooner.

Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?

No. As long as we have clear instructions on where the dumpster should go — mark the spot — and the area is free of vehicles and obstacles, you do not need to be present.

What if I need to extend my rental period?

Call the office before the period ends. We can often extend your rental for an additional daily or weekly fee, depending on availability, and if the container is full we can swap it instead.

Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?

Yes. Several dumpsters at once, staggered deliveries and scheduled swap-outs are routine for contractors and property managers.

Part 5

Service area

What towns do you serve?

Dothan, Kinsey, Webb, Cowarts, Headland, Midland City and Rehobeth; Ashford, Columbia, Gordon and Cottonwood; and Ozark, Newton, Enterprise, Abbeville, Slocomb and Hartford — each with its own page. The complete Dothan guide pulls it together.

Where are you based?

At 1950 Wise Dr, Dothan, AL 36303 — inside the City of Dothan, Houston County, just off Ross Clark Circle near Headland Avenue.

Is service different in the far towns?

Mostly the timing. Enterprise, our furthest stop, is about 31 road miles from the yard, Abbeville about 25 and Hartford about 24. Price depends partly on the delivery location, and we say any difference up front.

Is a Dothan mailing address always inside the City?

No. The rules follow the city or town the property is in, not the mailing address. Inside the City of Dothan, the City Code applies — the § 86-1 street rule, City curbside pickup and the rest. Outside the city limits, in unincorporated Houston County, the County's rules apply: its household garbage service is mandatory under the policy that took effect on October 1, 2026, it covers household garbage only, and contractor debris left on the county right-of-way carries a minimum charge. Kinsey, Webb, Cowarts and the other towns write their own rules. Tell us the address and we check.

Do some places restrict who can deliver a roll-off?

A few. Hartford requires a City licence to pick up refuse, trash or construction and demolition materials (Ord. 06-01-2026-1, § 22). Ozark keeps commercial garbage and trash for the City or a City-licensed and permitted contractor (§ 10-27). Enterprise charges commercial waste collection companies franchise fees under Resolution 12-2-97. Ashford provides commercial collection itself and leaves construction debris to the contractor or owner (Ord. 2026-001), so construction roll-offs fit there while ongoing commercial trash service does not. In those four, we check the City's rules before booking. Each town page says what that town asks for.

Part 6

What we take

What can I put in a dumpster?

Most common cleanup materials: wood, drywall, flooring, furniture, household junk, roofing shingles, branches and brush, construction debris and small non-hazardous appliances — plus concrete, brick, dirt and asphalt within the weight limit, in a 10 or 15. Yard waste is best kept in its own load. If you are ever unsure, just ask and we confirm before delivery.

What can't go in a dumpster?

Paints and solvents, oils and fuels, tires, batteries, hazardous chemicals, medical waste, gas cylinders, propane tanks, flammable materials and asbestos stay out, and so do refrigerators and other appliances still holding refrigerant unless they have been properly prepared. Those are our rules. Alabama's own rules keep regulated hazardous waste out of ordinary landfills (ADEM 335-13-4-.21(1)(h)) and free liquids out of construction and demolition landfills (335-13-4-.23); from 2028, landfills may not take whole tires except incidental ones (335-13-4-.21(1)(i)). If you are unsure about an item, call before loading it. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.

Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?

No. ADEM requires a 10-day notification before any demolition, with or without asbestos-containing material, and before a renovation that removes at least 260 linear feet, 160 square feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos-containing material. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units that stay residential are exempt, unless they are part of a larger project. Regulated asbestos has to be removed by an ADEM-certified abatement contractor, and friable asbestos has to be disposed of as special waste whatever the amount — never in a roll-off.

Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?

Yes, but usually only in the smaller dumpsters, such as a 10 or 15 yard, because weight limits keep the haul safe. Under ADEM's rules, uncontaminated concrete, soil, brick, rock and waste asphalt paving fall outside the definition of construction and demolition waste (ADEM 335-13-1-.03(30)), so a clean load is easier to recycle than a mixed one.

Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?

Mattresses and furniture, yes. Small non-hazardous appliances, usually yes. Refrigerators and other appliances that contain refrigerant stay out unless they have been properly prepared. Our junk removal crew takes appliances with the Freon removed.

What happens to the debris after pickup?

It goes to an approved disposal or recycling facility that is allowed to take it. We work with local disposal and recycling facilities, and metal, concrete, yard debris, cardboard and certain construction materials may be separated and recycled when appropriate. Every load travels covered or tarped, as Dothan's code and Alabama law require (City Code § 82-112; Code of Ala. §§ 22-27-3(f), 32-5-76(b)).
