The 30 yard container in Dothan
The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 7.5 feet of ground as the 20 — the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of bulky or mixed debris but the site has no more room: a full-home or multi-room renovation, an estate or move-out cleanout, a retail or office remodel with shelving, displays and partitions, light demolition, construction cleanup, or a larger community or property cleanup. It fits many residential driveways and commercial properties across the Wiregrass, and it holds about nine pickup truck loads, or roughly 170 to 190 standard 33-gallon bags.
The walls are about six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Contractors with a crew do not mind; a homeowner working alone may prefer a 20 and a swap.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide (a driveway, paved lot or gravel pad, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and utility lines
Big renovations, cleanouts and commercial remodels
Taking several rooms back to the studs fills a 30 in a hurry: cabinets, countertops, doors, drywall, framing, flooring and fixtures. Estate and move-out cleanouts land here too — furniture, mattresses, boxes and mixed junk — and so do retail and office remodels and light tear-outs with doors, windows and framing materials. Packaging, pallets and light demolition debris fit as well. Sort a few things first: refrigerators and other appliances still holding refrigerant stay out unless they have been properly prepared, and paint, solvents, fuel, tires and batteries stay out under our rules. Tell us what is in the house and we talk through where those go.
Knocking a building down takes paperwork before it takes a dumpster. ADEM wants a 10-day notification before any demolition, with or without asbestos-containing material, and before a renovation that removes at least 260 linear feet, 160 square feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos-containing material. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units that stay residential are exempt, unless they are part of a larger project. Friable asbestos has to be disposed of as special waste whatever the amount, and regulated asbestos has to be removed by an ADEM-certified abatement contractor — so asbestos never goes in our roll-offs. We ask what the building is before we quote.
Weight, swaps and long jobs
Usually about four to five tons — 8,000 to 10,000 pounds — is included, depending on the debris type and disposal requirements. Because the 30 holds so much volume, dense materials such as roofing shingles, tile, concrete, wet yard debris, brick and plaster may reach the weight limit before the container is physically full, so plan for weight as well as volume, load evenly, keep everything level with the top edge and separate dense materials whenever possible. If the job is mainly concrete, brick, dirt, tile or plaster, a 10 or 15 is the more efficient and cost-effective choice. Jobs that run for weeks usually go on a rotation: we arrange additional containers or scheduled swap-outs, and contractors and commercial customers can ask about recurring service and job-site support.
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 30 yard for
- Full-home and multi-room renovations
- Estate and move-out cleanouts
- Retail and office remodels — shelving, displays, partitions
- Light demolition — doors, windows, framing
- Community and larger property cleanups
Pick a different size for
- Mostly concrete, brick, dirt, tile or plaster — a 10 or 15 manages the weight better
- Heavy loads beyond safe hauling limits
- Appliances still holding refrigerant, unless properly prepared
- Asbestos, paint, solvents, fuel, tires, batteries or medical waste
Placing a 30 yard container in Dothan
It needs a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide (a driveway, paved lot or gravel pad, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck, and clear space overhead, free of low branches and utility lines. The driveway comes first. In Dothan we found no City rule for a temporary roll-off on your own driveway or lot — keep it off the sidewalk and the street. Dothan's code makes it unlawful to put boxes, rubbish or any other article on a sidewalk, street, alley or public way where it may obstruct it, unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and putting trash, limbs or debris of any kind on a street takes a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director first (§ 86-8). We found no City permit written for dumpsters or roll-offs, and no fee, time limit or lighting rule, so call Public Works at (334) 615-4420, or ask us, before anything goes in the street. The roll-off truck itself may not park on a residential street except while it is loading or unloading (§ 98-91). Ross Clark Circle, US-231, US-84, US-431, AL-52 and AL-53 are state routes, where ALDOT prohibits any use of the right-of-way other than normal traffic without its written permission and has no container permit, so the box stays on the property. Other towns have their own rules — Enterprise wants a written permit from the City for anything in a street, with red lights at night (§ 18-30), Ozark and Abbeville bar street obstructions outright, and Headland's building permits want the dumpster on the job site. Check your HOA too. Protective boards can go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

Answers
30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Is a 30 yard too big for a house?
For a regular cleanout, often yes — a whole-home cleanout usually goes in a 20. For a full-house renovation or a large estate cleanout, no — that volume arrives faster than people expect. We will tell you honestly which it is.
Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?
Yes. When the container is full we can swap it for an empty one or add a second container, and contractors with ongoing work can set up recurring service at the start.
How much weight is included in a 30 yard?
Most rentals include about four to five tons, depending on the material type. A 30 full of tile, dirt or concrete can pass that well before it reaches the top edge, so we estimate heavy loads with you during the quote.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?
On your own driveway or lot in Dothan we found no City rule for a temporary roll-off. The street is different: nothing may obstruct a Dothan street, sidewalk or alley unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and debris on a street needs a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director (§ 86-8). Ross Clark Circle, US-231, US-84, US-431, AL-52 and AL-53 are state routes, and ALDOT prohibits any use of state right-of-way other than normal traffic without its written permission, with no container permit in its manual, so there the box stays on private property. Other towns have their own rules, and each town page says what that town asks for.
