The 15 yard container in Dothan
The 15 yard is the step up from the 10 when the job is one big room rather than one small one. Multi-room cleanouts, kitchen and bathroom remodels — cabinets, countertops, vanities, tile and the drywall behind them — flooring projects, roofing debris, a garage, attic or basement cleanout, a deck or fence coming down, landscaping cleanup and tree trimming debris are the classic fits. It holds about 15 cubic yards, roughly four to five pickup truck loads, or about 80 to 100 standard 33-gallon trash bags.
At about 16 feet long it gives you more room than a 10 without taking over the driveway, and it fits comfortably on many residential driveways throughout Dothan. The 4.5-foot sides keep loading easy. It is one of the most versatile sizes we run: when you need more space than a 10 yard without moving up to a large construction container, this is usually where you land.
Space needed
a flat, solid spot about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide (a driveway, gravel pad or paved area, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck, and clear space overhead, free of tree branches and utility lines
Kitchens, floors, roofs and yards
A kitchen makes more debris than people expect: by the time the cabinets, the countertops and the drywall are out, a 10 is tight and a 15 is right. Flooring jobs are the same — carpet, laminate, tile and wood flooring — and tile gets heavy fast. Roofing fits too: tell us about the roof and we help estimate the weight before you book. Break long deck and fence boards, posts and hardware down so they load flat and save space.
Yard work fits as well — branches, shrubs and landscaping debris from a seasonal cleanup. Keep the green waste in its own load where you can, and keep household trash out of it. City of Dothan curbside pickup takes yard waste and bulk items in one pile per home, but limbs no longer than 5 feet or wider than 8 inches, set curbside, not in the street; trees and limbs over 8 inches, stumps, and anything cut by a contractor are the owner's job (City Code § 82-20(h)). If more than half the load is dense material such as tile, concrete or dirt, a 10 yard is usually more efficient.
Weight on a 15 yard
Usually about two to three tons — 4,000 to 6,000 pounds — is included, depending on the debris type and disposal requirements. Tile, roofing shingles, dirt, concrete and wet yard waste reach that quickly; cabinets, drywall, carpet and furniture rarely do. Plan by weight, not only volume, and we can estimate it from your project details before delivery. Load evenly across the container and keep everything level with the top edge, which keeps the load within transportation safety rules. If most of your debris is dense material, a smaller dumpster may help reduce disposal costs and weight overages.
Suitability
Is the 15 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 15 yard for
- Kitchen or bath remodel including cabinets and countertops
- Garage, attic, basement and multi-room cleanouts
- Flooring and carpet removal
- Roofing debris, with the weight checked first
- Deck and fence removal, landscaping and tree trimming debris
Pick a different size for
- Whole-house renovations — go to the 20 or 30
- Loads that are mostly tile, concrete or dirt (weight — a 10 may be better)
- Household trash mixed into a green load
- Paint, solvents, chemicals, fuel, tires, batteries, asbestos or medical waste
Placing a 15 yard container in Dothan
It needs a flat, solid spot about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide (a driveway, gravel pad or paved area, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck, and clear space overhead, free of tree branches and utility lines. The driveway comes first. In Dothan we found no City rule for a temporary roll-off on your own driveway or lot — keep it off the sidewalk and the street. Dothan's code makes it unlawful to put boxes, rubbish or any other article on a sidewalk, street, alley or public way where it may obstruct it, unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and putting trash, limbs or debris of any kind on a street takes a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director first (§ 86-8). We found no City permit written for dumpsters or roll-offs, and no fee, time limit or lighting rule, so call Public Works at (334) 615-4420, or ask us, before anything goes in the street. The roll-off truck itself may not park on a residential street except while it is loading or unloading (§ 98-91). Ross Clark Circle, US-231, US-84, US-431, AL-52 and AL-53 are state routes, where ALDOT prohibits any use of the right-of-way other than normal traffic without its written permission and has no container permit, so the box stays on the property. Other towns have their own rules — Enterprise wants a written permit from the City for anything in a street, with red lights at night (§ 18-30), Ozark and Abbeville bar street obstructions outright, and Headland's building permits want the dumpster on the job site. Check your HOA too. Protective boards can go under the container on request. Each town page covers its own rules.

Answers
15 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How big is a 15 yard dumpster?
About 16 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and 4.5 feet high. It holds around four to five pickup truck loads, or roughly 80 to 100 standard 33-gallon trash bags.
Will it fit in my driveway?
Most likely — at about 16 feet it fits comfortably on many Dothan driveways, and the driveway is where it should go. The truck needs about 60 feet of clear approach, a flat surface such as a driveway, gravel area or pavement, and clear space overhead. The street is the fallback, not the plan: in Dothan, nothing may obstruct a street, sidewalk or alley unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and debris on a street needs a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director (§ 86-8). The roll-off truck itself may not park on a residential street except while it is loading or unloading (§ 98-91). If you have HOA rules, check them too.
Can I keep it longer than the standard period?
Yes. The standard rental period is typically 3 to 7 days, and extensions are possible for an additional daily or weekly fee, depending on availability — just call before the period ends.
What is the weight limit?
Most 15 yard rentals include about two to three tons, depending on the material type. Tile, shingles, concrete, dirt and wet yard waste can reach that quickly, so tell us what it is and we will help estimate it.
Can I mix different materials?
Usually yes, as long as nothing on the not-accepted list goes in. Heavy materials like concrete or dirt may need separate disposal arrangements, and yard waste is best kept in its own load. If a lot of the load is heavy, tell us and we may recommend a smaller box for that part.
