The City collects residential trash weekly, but its code says “Commercial dumpster service has been discontinued; all commercial services are provided by outside contractors” (§ 28-10(a)). Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Abbeville

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Commercial service — the City discontinued its commercial dumpster service; outside contractors provide it (§ 28-10(a)).
  • Building debris — the property owner is responsible for removing and disposing of it (§ 28-13).
  • Tree work — citizens who hire tree work have the contractor remove all the debris (§ 28-5).
  • No street obstructions — no blocking a street with boxes, barrels or the like (§ 46-2), no storing goods or property on a street (§ 46-3), and no dirt, trash, wood, lumber or brick in the gutters (§ 46-4).
  • Truck routes — State Highway 10, State Highway 95 and US-431, with trucks leaving the routes only to load or unload by the shortest route (§§ 50-146, 50-147).
  • Public Works — streets, sanitation and debris pickup, (334) 585-6444.

What comes out of Abbeville properties

Roofing in 10s and 20s, remodels and home clean-outs in 20s, estate clean-outs in 30s, and demolition in 40s. Hired tree work leaves its debris with the contractor (§ 28-5) — brush and branches go in a 15 or 20.

What goes in: wood, drywall, flooring, furniture, household junk, yard waste, roofing shingles, branches and brush, construction debris and small non-hazardous appliances. What doesn't: paints and solvents, oils and fuels, tires, batteries, hazardous chemicals, medical waste, gas cylinders, propane tanks, flammable materials and refrigerators that still hold refrigerant — that's our own list, not a state ban. Alabama's rules: regulated hazardous waste can't go to an ordinary non-hazardous landfill (ADEM 335-13-4-.21(1)(h)), every permitted landfill screens loads for free liquids, regulated hazardous, medical and PCB wastes (335-13-4-.21(1)(b)), free liquids are barred at construction and demolition landfills (335-13-4-.23(1)), and carrying more than eight scrap tires at once needs an ADEM transporter permit (Code of Ala. § 22-40A-7). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Alabama guide covers the rest. In Henry County, the County Landfill at 1023 County Road 53, Abbeville, takes construction materials, yard debris, asphalt shingles, sheet rock, untreated lumber and siding, but not treated lumber, electronics, tires, asbestos products, oil or paint, and takes mixed loads only when they're separated (county landfill sheet).

Permits, placement and who may haul in Abbeville

Who may haul: the City collects residential trash, its commercial dumpster service has been discontinued and outside contractors provide commercial service (§ 28-10(a)), and building debris is the property owner's to remove (§ 28-13). Every business in the city or police jurisdiction pays a business licence (§ 12-19); we found no hauler permit or franchise. Haulers keep loads secured and covered (§ 28-9). We're licensed and insured.

In the street: “No person shall obstruct any street with any animal or vehicle or with boxes or barrels or other like commodity” (§ 46-2), and we found no street-container permit. The container goes on your driveway or lot. You don't need to be home as long as we have clear instructions on where it goes and the spot is free of vehicles and obstacles. Allow approximately 60 feet of access for the truck; we use protective boards when needed to help prevent driveway damage.

Trucks: trucks stay on State Highway 10, State Highway 95 and US-431 inside city limits except to load or unload, by the shortest and nearest route (§§ 50-146, 50-147). We plan the route to your address.

State highways: ALDOT says any use of the state right-of-way other than normal vehicle traffic is prohibited without its written permission (Permit Manual 11.2), and its manual has no dumpster or container permit — so beside a state or US highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.

Covered loads: Alabama bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so nothing drops, sifts, leaks or escapes (Code of Ala. § 32-5-76(b)), and trucks hauling garbage and rubbish must be covered, secured or sealed (§ 22-27-3(f)). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't legally be hauled.

Remodel or tear-down: ADEM wants a 10-day notification before any demolition, with or without asbestos, and before a renovation that removes at least 260 linear feet, 160 square feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos-containing material. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units that stay residential are exempt, unless they're part of a larger project. Friable asbestos goes out as special waste whatever the amount, and regulated asbestos is removed by an ADEM-certified abatement contractor. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Abbeville

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address in Dothan or the town around it, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a flat-rate quote that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, tires, propane tanks and gas cylinders, flammable materials, medical waste, asbestos, and appliances still holding refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup. The load is covered or tarped for the road and goes to an approved disposal or recycling facility, with metal, concrete, cardboard and yard debris recycled whenever possible.
