Junk removal — the local specifics
Most public programs stop short of a real cleanout. In Dothan, curbside pickup takes yard waste and bulk items such as furniture and appliances from City homes — one pile per home, curbside, not in the street — but not construction or demolition debris, tires or commercial waste, and the City does not collect from businesses at all (City Code § 82-36(a)). Houston County's household garbage service, mandatory for county households under the policy that took effect on October 1, 2026, covers household garbage only and will not collect batteries, tires, propane tanks, stumps or land-clearing debris. Ozark's Public Works asks anyone cleaning out an entire house to call before the work starts, and no longer picks up construction debris. Enterprise residents can take oil, batteries and tires to the City's Public Works shop, and Ozark offers residents a waste-oil drop-off at Public Works (Ozark Code § 10-31).
