Residential Dumpster Rental across Dothan and the Wiregrass
Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. A tight driveway near downtown Dothan or in the Garden District wants a 10 or a 15 set down carefully; a bigger lot out in the Wiregrass towns may have room for a 20 or a 30. For many remodeling and moving projects in Dothan, a 15 or 20 yard gives the best balance between capacity and driveway space, and the first thing we ask on the phone is what your driveway looks like.
Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, a basement, a storage room or a whole house before a move or downsizing), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the home cleanout guide covers the planning, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container
Home cleanouts lead the way: furniture, boxes, household junk, old appliances and general clutter from a garage, attic, basement, storage room or a whole house. Remodels are next — drywall, cabinets, tile, wood and flooring from a kitchen, a bath or an interior tear-out. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof, scrap from a DIY project, branches, brush, shrubs and soil from a landscaping job, and storm cleanup.
The City will take some of it, not all. City of Dothan curbside pickup takes yard waste — leaves, limbs and grass clippings — and bulk items such as furniture and appliances, in one pile per home, placed curbside and not in the street, with limbs no longer than 5 feet or wider than 8 inches. It does not accept construction or demolition debris, tires or commercial waste. The City Code leaves building material from anything beyond minor repairs by the owner, trash and landscape debris from work done by a contractor, trees and limbs over 8 inches with their stumps, and hazardous refuse for the owner or producer to remove (City Code § 82-20(h)). Outside the city, Houston County's household garbage service does not count furnishings, carpet, construction or remodeling debris, appliances, batteries, tires or propane tanks as garbage. That is what a residential roll-off is for.
Driveway placement, street rules and HOAs
In Dothan the driveway comes first. We found no City rule for a temporary roll-off on your own driveway or lot, and a driveway, gravel pad or paved area works best; protective boards can go under the container on request, and some customers put plywood or wooden boards down themselves for extra protection. The street is another matter. Dothan's code makes it unlawful to put boxes, rubbish or any other article on a sidewalk, street, alley or public way where it may obstruct it, unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and putting trash, limbs or debris of any kind on a street takes a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director first (§ 86-8). We found no City permit written for dumpsters or roll-offs, and no fee, time limit or lighting rule, so call Public Works at (334) 615-4420, or ask us, before anything goes in the street.
Two more Dothan rules point the same way. The City Code bars placing trash, refuse or bulk items in public streets, gutters or over storm drains (§ 82-20(j)), and no truck heavier than a one-ton pickup may park on a residential street except while it is loading or unloading (§ 98-91) — so the roll-off truck sets the box down and leaves. Ross Clark Circle, US-231, US-84, US-431, AL-52 and AL-53 are state routes; ALDOT prohibits any use of state right-of-way other than normal traffic without its written permission and has no container permit, so there the box stays on the property. In Ozark and Abbeville the codes bar street obstructions outright (Ozark § 16-1, Abbeville § 46-2). HOA rules can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before a longer rental. Each town page says what that town asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the Alabama specifics
Alabama's state rules are narrower than people expect, and we keep our own list on top of them. Regulated hazardous waste may not go to an ordinary non-hazardous landfill (ADEM 335-13-4-.21(1)(h)); every permitted landfill screens loads for free liquids, regulated hazardous waste, regulated medical waste and PCB waste (335-13-4-.21(1)(b)); and free liquids are barred at construction and demolition landfills (335-13-4-.23). From 2028, Alabama landfills may not take whole tires except incidental ones (335-13-4-.21(1)(i)), and hauling more than eight scrap tires at a time takes an ADEM transporter permit (Code of Ala. § 22-40A-7). Our own not-accepted list — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, batteries, tires, propane tanks and gas cylinders, flammable materials, hazardous chemicals, medical waste, asbestos and appliances still holding refrigerant — is company policy, not a state ban list. Dothan has no household hazardous waste program on the City pages we read, and the City Code bars putting hazardous refuse in any container used for City collection (§ 82-37), so ask us before you load anything you are unsure about. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.
Answers
Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We take precautions to minimize the risk of damage during delivery and pickup, and protective boards can be used beneath the container on request. Some customers also put plywood or wooden boards under the wheels for added protection — ask before delivery, especially on newer concrete or pavers.
Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?
In Dothan, only under a valid permit from the City: nothing may obstruct a sidewalk, street, alley or public way otherwise (City Code § 86-1), and debris on a street needs a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director (§ 86-8). We found no City permit written for dumpsters, so call Public Works at (334) 615-4420 or ask us first. On a state route such as Ross Clark Circle or US-231 we found no ALDOT container permit at all. The driveway is always simpler.
Does my HOA have a say?
On the driveway, often yes. HOA rules can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — tell us about them, and check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.
Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?
Small non-hazardous appliances, usually yes. Refrigerators and other appliances that contain refrigerant stay out unless they have been properly prepared, so tell us what the appliance is when you book. Our junk removal crew takes appliances with the Freon removed, and Dothan's curbside bulk pickup takes appliances from City homes.
How long can I keep the container?
The standard rental period is typically 3 to 7 days, and your quote confirms it. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it for an additional daily or weekly fee, depending on availability. If you finish early, call and we schedule the pickup sooner.
Do you serve outside Dothan?
Yes — sixteen more towns: Kinsey, Webb, Cowarts, Headland, Midland City and Rehobeth next door; Ashford, Columbia, Gordon and Cottonwood around Houston County; and Ozark, Newton, Enterprise, Abbeville, Slocomb and Hartford around the Wiregrass. Each has its own page, and each says plainly what that town requires for a container and who may haul. We are licensed and insured.
