Roll-off dumpster rental in Headland

Approx. 10 road miles from the yard, around 23 minutes.

Headland is approx. 10 road miles north-northeast of the yard, around 23 minutes — same-day or next-day delivery depending on availability; call earlier in the day for the best chance of same-day. It is a city of 4,973 at the 2020 Census, the largest in Henry County, along US-431.

City trash is contracted out, with pickup on Wednesdays, and the City's FAQ says it “is not responsible for picking up debris contracted by a third party.” Headland's residential and commercial building permit applications go further: the porta john and the dumpster must be on the job site, and the site kept clean and orderly daily. That's where a roll-off comes in.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Headland

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Dumpster on the job site — the City's building permit applications say the porta john and dumpster must be on the job site, kept clean and orderly daily.
  • Dumpster on the permit form — the subcontractor table has a Dumpster row asking for the company's name, address, phone and City licence number.
  • Demolition — the City's demolition permit says all trash and debris must be completely removed from the site.
  • Third-party debris — the City isn't responsible for picking up debris contracted by a third party (City FAQ); debris it does take is cut to 5 ft or less.
  • City trash — contracted out, picked up Wednesdays; the City's list of prohibited items includes televisions and monitors, trees, food garbage, oil, hazardous chemicals, liquid paint and dead animals.
  • Planning and Development — building, demolition, fence and pool permits, 334-785-5612.

What comes out of Headland properties

Remodels in 15s and 20s, roofing in 10s and 20s, new construction in 30s and 40s, and demolition in 40s — Headland's demolition permit wants every bit of debris off the site, so size for the whole tear-down. Fence and pool permit applicants sign that they're responsible for removing all debris from the project, and a container on site handles it.

What goes in: wood, drywall, flooring, furniture, household junk, yard waste, roofing shingles, branches and brush, construction debris and small non-hazardous appliances. What doesn't: paints and solvents, oils and fuels, tires, batteries, hazardous chemicals, medical waste, gas cylinders, propane tanks, flammable materials and refrigerators that still hold refrigerant — that's our own list, not a state ban. Alabama's rules: regulated hazardous waste can't go to an ordinary non-hazardous landfill (ADEM 335-13-4-.21(1)(h)), every permitted landfill screens loads for free liquids, regulated hazardous, medical and PCB wastes (335-13-4-.21(1)(b)), free liquids are barred at construction and demolition landfills (335-13-4-.23(1)), and carrying more than eight scrap tires at once needs an ADEM transporter permit (Code of Ala. § 22-40A-7). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Alabama guide covers the rest. In Henry County, the County Landfill at 1023 County Road 53, Abbeville, takes construction materials, yard debris, asphalt shingles, sheet rock, untreated lumber and siding, but not treated lumber, electronics, tires, asbestos products, oil or paint, and takes mixed loads only when they're separated (county landfill sheet).

Permits, placement and who may haul in Headland

Who may haul: City trash is contracted out, and we found no franchise or exclusive-hauler rule for construction debris. Headland's Business License Code (Ord. 12-2007) lists a waste management class (562998), and the building permit form asks for the dumpster company's City licence number. We're licensed and insured.

On the job site: the City's residential and commercial building permit applications say the dumpster must be on the job site — so the container goes on the lot or driveway, not the street. You don't need to be home as long as we have clear instructions on where it goes and the spot is free of vehicles and obstacles. Allow approximately 60 feet of access for the truck; we use protective boards when needed to help prevent driveway damage.

In the street: Headland's full code isn't online, and we found no street-placement or parking rule in the ordinances it posts. Ask Planning and Development, 334-785-5612, before anything goes in a street.

State highways: US-431 runs along Headland. ALDOT says any use of the state right-of-way other than normal vehicle traffic is prohibited without its written permission (Permit Manual 11.2), and its manual has no dumpster or container permit — so beside a state or US highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.

Covered loads: Alabama bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so nothing drops, sifts, leaks or escapes (Code of Ala. § 32-5-76(b)), and trucks hauling garbage and rubbish must be covered, secured or sealed (§ 22-27-3(f)). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't legally be hauled.

Remodel or tear-down: ADEM wants a 10-day notification before any demolition, with or without asbestos, and before a renovation that removes at least 260 linear feet, 160 square feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos-containing material. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units that stay residential are exempt, unless they're part of a larger project. Friable asbestos goes out as special waste whatever the amount, and regulated asbestos is removed by an ADEM-certified abatement contractor. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Headland

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address in Dothan or the town around it, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a flat-rate quote that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, tires, propane tanks and gas cylinders, flammable materials, medical waste, asbestos, and appliances still holding refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup. The load is covered or tarped for the road and goes to an approved disposal or recycling facility, with metal, concrete, cardboard and yard debris recycled whenever possible.
