Construction Dumpster Rental across Dothan and the Wiregrass

A job site does not make one kind of waste. Demolition comes out heavy — concrete, brick, tile, shingles — then framing and drywall come out light and bulky, then the finish phase is packaging and offcuts. We size each phase on its own: a 10 or 15 for the heavy material, a 30 or 40 for the bulk, and scheduled swap-outs so the crew never waits on a full box. Many contractors in Dothan choose a 20 for renovation projects and a 30 or 40 for larger construction and demolition work — from a new home to a retail, office or warehouse build-out.

Building debris is its own stream here. Dothan's code leaves building material — lumber, brick, block, stone, plaster, concrete, asphalt, roofing shingles, flooring and the like, from repairs, remodeling, additions, construction or demolition — for the owner or producer to remove, whoever generated it (City Code §§ 82-1, 82-20(h)), and the City's curbside pickup does not accept construction or demolition debris. Enterprise, Ozark and Abbeville say the same about building debris in their own codes. Under ADEM's rules, construction and demolition waste covers masonry, sheet rock, roofing, non-asbestos insulation, scrap metal and wood products, while clean concrete, soil, brick, rock and asphalt paving are left out of that definition (ADEM 335-13-1-.03(30)). A clean, separated load and a box sized for the weight keep the job on budget. The Dothan permit guide covers the street questions.

Demolition, framing, roofing and finish

Demolition debris is where the weight is. Concrete, brick, roofing shingles, tile and stone go in the smaller containers because of weight limits. Framing debris, lumber, plywood, drywall scraps and packaging go in 20s, 30s and 40s. Roofing and siding jobs — shingles, metal roofing, tar paper, underlayment, siding debris and construction scrap — go in a 10, 15 or 20 depending on the size of the roof. Landscaping and excavation cleanup — dirt, soil, rock, sod and brush — goes in a small box within the weight limit. New home construction, kitchen and bath remodels, room additions, flooring replacement, interior demolition, retail and office renovations, warehouse projects and multi-unit developments — every phase has a size.

Demolition is a state matter before it is a dumpster matter. ADEM wants a 10-day notification before any demolition, with or without asbestos-containing material, and before a renovation that removes at least 260 linear feet, 160 square feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos-containing material; privately owned homes of four or fewer units that stay residential are exempt unless they are part of a larger project. Regulated asbestos has to be removed by an ADEM-certified abatement contractor, friable asbestos goes out as special waste whatever the amount, and insulation counts as construction waste only when it is not asbestos. Asbestos never goes in our roll-offs, and we ask what the building is before we quote a demo job.

Job-site placement around Dothan

On a private lot we place where the driver can reach it and the crew can load it, on a solid surface with about 60 feet of approach and clear space overhead, and we coordinate the timing with your site manager. In the street it is a permit question. Dothan's code makes it unlawful to put boxes, rubbish or any other article on a sidewalk, street, alley or public way where it may obstruct it, unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and putting trash, limbs or debris of any kind on a street takes a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director first (§ 86-8). We found no City permit written for dumpsters or roll-offs, and no fee, time limit or lighting rule, so call Public Works at (334) 615-4420, or ask us, before anything goes in the street. Trash, refuse and bulk items may not be placed in public streets, gutters or over storm drains at all (§ 82-20(j)). Ross Clark Circle is the City's through route for commercial vehicles, and trucks leave a truck route only to deliver or load, by the most direct route (§ 98-129). In Enterprise, a contractor depositing material in a street needs a written permit from the City — the code says the mayor issues it — kept to your side of the center line with safeguards and red lights at night (Enterprise Code § 18-30); Ozark and Abbeville bar street obstructions (Ozark § 16-1, Abbeville § 46-2); and Headland's building permit forms say the dumpster must be on the job site. Every load leaves covered or tarped (City Code § 82-112; Code of Ala. § 32-5-76(b)).

Construction dumpster rental — the local specifics

Every town writes its own rules, and most of them leave construction debris to the owner or the contractor. Enterprise's Sanitation Department will not remove building debris, dirt or rocks — the owner has it privately removed (Enterprise Code § 13-80) — and each contractor or subcontractor is responsible for the trash it generates (§ 13-72(b)(16)). Ozark Public Works no longer picks up construction debris, and debris from new construction has to be removed by the owner or the contractor (Ozark Code § 10-26). Abbeville does not collect building debris, dirt or rocks; the property owner removes it (Abbeville Code § 28-13). Ashford makes the contractor or property owner responsible for construction debris (Ord. 2026-001, § 3F), so construction roll-offs fit there, while ongoing commercial trash service is the City's. Headland's building permit forms want the dumpster on the job site, and its demolition permit wants all debris removed. Hartford is the exception to watch: its 2026 ordinance makes it unlawful to pick up construction and demolition materials in the City without a City licence (Ord. 06-01-2026-1, § 22), and contractors may not bring job-site debris to the City's C&D landfill (§ 11), so we check the City's rules before booking there. Geneva County Solid Waste will not pick up contractor-generated debris, and Houston County charges a minimum for contractor debris left on the county right-of-way. Every town page quotes the section.

Answers

Construction Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Do you do swap-outs?

Yes. Once the container is full we haul it away and can rotate in an empty one, and long-term projects usually set up scheduled swap-outs at the start. Need multiple dumpsters or recurring service on an ongoing project? We arrange that too.

Can I mix concrete with other debris?

You can, but it costs you. Concrete fills the weight allowance long before the box looks full, so we usually run a 10 or 15 for rubble alongside a bigger box for the rest. Clean concrete, brick, rock and asphalt paving fall outside Alabama's definition of construction and demolition waste, so a clean load of it is easier to send for recycling than a mixed one.

Can you deliver to a site with no address yet?

Yes — give us the nearest cross streets and a site contact, and we coordinate delivery timing and placement with you or the site manager before the truck goes out.

Do I need a permit for a container on a Dothan job site?

On the lot itself, we found no City rule for a temporary roll-off. In the street, sidewalk or alley, yes: Dothan's code allows nothing to obstruct them unless it is there under a valid permit from the City (City Code § 86-1), and debris on a street takes a written permit from the City Engineer or the Public Works Director (§ 86-8). A demolition brings its own step — ADEM wants a 10-day notification before any demolition. We flag it when you book.

Which towns regulate construction dumpsters?

In one way or another, several. Hartford requires a City licence to pick up construction and demolition materials (Ord. 06-01-2026-1, § 22); Enterprise wants the City's written permit before material goes in a street (§ 18-30); Ozark and Abbeville bar street obstructions; and Headland wants the dumpster on the job site. Each town page says what that town asks for.
