Roll-off dumpster rental in Columbia

Approx. 20 road miles from the yard, around 30 minutes.

Columbia is approx. 20 road miles east of the yard, around 30 minutes — same-day or next-day delivery depending on availability; call earlier in the day for the best chance of same-day. It is a town of 690 at the 2020 Census, in Houston County.

Houston County's communities page lists only a social media page for Columbia, and we found no town ordinances, garbage rules or street rules online. Whether the County truck runs inside town limits depends on the town's consent under state law (Code of Ala. § 22-27-3(a)(4)); we couldn't confirm it. Either way, the County's policy counts household garbage only, so remodels, roofs and clean-outs go in a roll-off.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Columbia

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • No town code online — Houston County's communities page lists only a social media page for Columbia, and we found no posted ordinances.
  • County collection — unconfirmed inside town limits; a county needs the town's express consent to collect there (§ 22-27-3(a)(4)).
  • Certificate of exception — where a county system is mandatory, a household that hauls its own waste instead applies to the county health officer for a certificate of exception (§ 22-27-3(g)).
  • County policy baseline — construction and remodeling debris, furnishings, carpet and appliances aren't household garbage (Houston County policy, effective 1 Oct 2026).
  • County roads — don't put trash in the roadway or block gutters, ditches or drainage (Houston County placement guidelines).

What comes out of Columbia properties

Garage and barn clean-outs in 10s and 15s, yard and storm clean-up in 15s and 20s, roofing and remodels in 20s, estate clean-outs in 30s, and demolition in 40s. At around 30 minutes out, the right size the first time matters — tell us what's going in and we'll help you choose the most cost-effective option.

What goes in: wood, drywall, flooring, furniture, household junk, yard waste, roofing shingles, branches and brush, construction debris and small non-hazardous appliances. What doesn't: paints and solvents, oils and fuels, tires, batteries, hazardous chemicals, medical waste, gas cylinders, propane tanks, flammable materials and refrigerators that still hold refrigerant — that's our own list, not a state ban. Alabama's rules: regulated hazardous waste can't go to an ordinary non-hazardous landfill (ADEM 335-13-4-.21(1)(h)), every permitted landfill screens loads for free liquids, regulated hazardous, medical and PCB wastes (335-13-4-.21(1)(b)), free liquids are barred at construction and demolition landfills (335-13-4-.23(1)), and carrying more than eight scrap tires at once needs an ADEM transporter permit (Code of Ala. § 22-40A-7). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Alabama guide covers the rest. Houston County Sanitation won't collect batteries, tires or propane tanks, the County offers no recycling (its own FAQ), and we found no public household hazardous waste drop-off on County pages.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Columbia

Who may haul: we found no Columbia town code, hauler licence or franchise online. Houston County's sanitation policy (effective 1 Oct 2026) makes subscription to county household garbage service mandatory under Code of Ala. § 22-27-1 et seq. — household garbage only, not construction or remodeling debris — and we found no county roll-off or construction-debris franchise. The county health department's Solid Waste Officer issues permits and inspects vehicles for garbage collectors and haulers within Houston County, (334) 678-2815. We're licensed and insured.

Placement: with no posted town street rule, the container goes on private property — a driveway or a cleared, level spot on the lot. Houston County Road and Bridge permits cover buildings, driveways, mobile-home moves and utility work — none is for a dumpster — and the County's guidelines say not to put trash in the roadway or block gutters, ditches or drainage. You don't need to be home as long as we have clear instructions on where it goes and the spot is free of vehicles and obstacles. Allow approximately 60 feet of access for the truck; we use protective boards when needed to help prevent driveway damage.

Parking: we found no town parking rule online. Driveway first.

State highways: ALDOT says any use of the state right-of-way other than normal vehicle traffic is prohibited without its written permission (Permit Manual 11.2), and its manual has no dumpster or container permit — so beside a state or US highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.

Covered loads: Alabama bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so nothing drops, sifts, leaks or escapes (Code of Ala. § 32-5-76(b)), and trucks hauling garbage and rubbish must be covered, secured or sealed (§ 22-27-3(f)). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't legally be hauled.

Remodel or tear-down: ADEM wants a 10-day notification before any demolition, with or without asbestos, and before a renovation that removes at least 260 linear feet, 160 square feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos-containing material. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units that stay residential are exempt, unless they're part of a larger project. Friable asbestos goes out as special waste whatever the amount, and regulated asbestos is removed by an ADEM-certified abatement contractor. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Columbia

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address in Dothan or the town around it, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a flat-rate quote that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, tires, propane tanks and gas cylinders, flammable materials, medical waste, asbestos, and appliances still holding refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal

Call when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup. The load is covered or tarped for the road and goes to an approved disposal or recycling facility, with metal, concrete, cardboard and yard debris recycled whenever possible.
