Dothan is a city of 71,072 at the 2020 Census, in Houston County (107,202). City trucks collect from homes: refuse from nonresidential establishments isn't collected by the City (City Code § 82-36(a)), and building material, contractor trash and tires are the owner's or producer's to remove (§ 82-20(h)). The City's own pickup page lists construction or demolition debris, tires and commercial waste as “Not Accepted.” Roofs, remodels, tear-outs and business clean-outs are roll-off work.

Local knowledge
Getting our bearings in Dothan
Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.
- The yard is in the city — 1950 Wise Dr, just off Ross Clark Circle (Census geocoder: Dothan city, Houston County).
- Not at the curb — the City's pickup page lists construction or demolition debris, tires and commercial waste as not accepted.
- Curbside rules — one pile per residence, at the curb and not in the street, limbs no more than 5 ft long and 8 inches across (Garbage, Trash and Recycling page).
- Building material — City code counts lumber, brick, block, carpet, stone, plaster, concrete, asphalt, roofing shingles, gutters and flooring from repairs, remodeling, construction or demolition (§ 82-1); the owner removes it (§ 82-20(h)).
- Truck routes — Ross Clark Circle is the through route for commercial vehicles, with no through commercial traffic inside the Circle; trucks may leave a route to deliver by the most direct route (§ 98-129).
- Environmental Services — 281 Complex Drive, Suite 1, (334) 615-3820; Public Works, (334) 615-4420.
What comes out of Dothan properties
Garage clean-outs and small roofing jobs in 10s (about 3 pickup loads), medium renovations and yard work in 15s (4 to 5 loads), roofing, remodels and whole-home clean-outs in 20s (about 6), large and estate clean-outs and commercial jobs in 30s (about 9), and demolition and new construction in 40s (about 12). Everything the City turns away under § 82-20(h) — lumber, brick, plaster, shingles, flooring, contractor debris — is exactly what a roll-off is for. Dirt, concrete, brick and asphalt usually go in a 10 or 15 to stay inside weight limits.
What goes in: wood, drywall, flooring, furniture, household junk, yard waste, roofing shingles, branches and brush, construction debris and small non-hazardous appliances. What doesn't: paints and solvents, oils and fuels, tires, batteries, hazardous chemicals, medical waste, gas cylinders, propane tanks, flammable materials and refrigerators that still hold refrigerant — that's our own list, not a state ban. Alabama's rules: regulated hazardous waste can't go to an ordinary non-hazardous landfill (ADEM 335-13-4-.21(1)(h)), every permitted landfill screens loads for free liquids, regulated hazardous, medical and PCB wastes (335-13-4-.21(1)(b)), free liquids are barred at construction and demolition landfills (335-13-4-.23(1)), and carrying more than eight scrap tires at once needs an ADEM transporter permit (Code of Ala. § 22-40A-7). Our what can and can't go in a dumpster in Alabama guide covers the rest. The City has no household hazardous waste program on its pages, and hazardous refuse can't go in any receptacle used for City collection (§ 82-37).

Sizes
Choosing a container size in Dothan
Weight is what usually decides the size, not how much room the pile takes up.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Dothan
Who may haul: the City collects household refuse; refuse from nonresidential establishments “will not be collected by the city” and is removed by the owner or producer unless the city manager approves otherwise (City Code § 82-36(a)), with the public works director setting the collection method for each one (§ 82-36(c)). We found no exclusive City franchise. A City business licence is required to do business in Dothan, and the licence schedule has a “Waste Management Services” class with a surety bond (§ 18-22). In Houston County, the health department's Solid Waste Officer issues permits and inspects vehicles for garbage collectors and haulers. We're licensed and insured.
In the street: it's unlawful to keep “boxes, rubbish or other article[s]” on a sidewalk, street, alley or public way unless it's “under valid permit from the city” (City Code § 86-1), and putting soil, trash or debris of any kind on a street needs a written permit from the city engineer or public works director (§ 86-8). No trash, refuse or bulk items in streets, gutters or over storm drains (§ 82-20(j)). We found no named dumpster permit, fee or time limit — ask Public Works, (334) 615-4420, before anything goes in a street. Our Dothan permit guide walks through it.
Driveway first: trucks heavier than a one-ton pickup can't stop, stand or park on residential streets except while actually loading or unloading (§ 98-91), and parking or placing an object on a street or right-of-way to store it is barred too (§ 98-87(a)). We set the container on your driveway or lot and the truck leaves. You don't need to be home as long as we have clear instructions on where it goes and the spot is free of vehicles and obstacles. Allow approximately 60 feet of access for the truck; we use protective boards when needed to help prevent driveway damage.
On your property: we found no City rule for a temporary roll-off on private property; the dumpster-enclosure rules in the zoning code (§ 114-83) are for permanent enclosures at commercial sites under development plans. Commercial sites keep debris around dumpster areas out of the storm drains (§ 83-7).
State highways: Ross Clark Circle (State Route 210), Headland Ave (State Route 211), US-431, US-231 and US-84 all run through Dothan. ALDOT says any use of the state right-of-way other than normal vehicle traffic is prohibited without its written permission (Permit Manual 11.2), and its manual has no dumpster or container permit — so beside a state or US highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.
Covered loads: Dothan wants every vehicle carrying solid waste in public places “covered or tarped” and secured (§ 82-112). Alabama bars driving a vehicle on a highway unless it's built or loaded so nothing drops, sifts, leaks or escapes (Code of Ala. § 32-5-76(b)), and trucks hauling garbage and rubbish must be covered, secured or sealed (§ 22-27-3(f)). Keep debris level with or below the top edge — an overfilled container can't legally be hauled.
Remodel or tear-down: ADEM wants a 10-day notification before any demolition, with or without asbestos, and before a renovation that removes at least 260 linear feet, 160 square feet or 35 cubic feet of regulated asbestos-containing material. Privately owned homes of four or fewer units that stay residential are exempt, unless they're part of a larger project. Friable asbestos goes out as special waste whatever the amount, and regulated asbestos is removed by an ADEM-certified abatement contractor. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Dothan
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address in Dothan or the town around it, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — what is going in, roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
We recommend the right size, so you do not pay for space you will not use or run out of room, and you get a flat-rate quote that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn, with protective boards on request. Often same-day or next-day, when availability allows. You do not need to be home if the spot is marked and clear.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep it level with or below the top edge and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, hazardous chemicals, batteries, tires, propane tanks and gas cylinders, flammable materials, medical waste, asbestos, and appliances still holding refrigerant. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We pick it up and handle the disposal
Call when it is full or the job is done and we schedule a prompt pickup. The load is covered or tarped for the road and goes to an approved disposal or recycling facility, with metal, concrete, cardboard and yard debris recycled whenever possible.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Dothan — common questions
How fast can you deliver in Dothan?
Same-day and next-day delivery in many parts of Dothan, depending on availability. Call (334) 686-0763 earlier in the day for the best chance of same-day. The phone is answered 24/7.
Is your yard in Dothan?
Yes. The US Census geocoder places 1950 Wise Dr inside the City of Dothan, Houston County, just off Ross Clark Circle.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Dothan?
On your own driveway or lot, we found no City dumpster permit. In a street, sidewalk or alley, City Code Sec. 86-1 bars boxes and rubbish unless under a valid City permit, and Sec. 86-8 needs a written permit from the city engineer or public works director for debris on a street. Ask Public Works, (334) 615-4420.
Will City trash pickup take my remodel debris?
No. The City lists construction or demolition debris, tires and commercial waste as not accepted, and building material from repairs, remodeling or construction is the owner's to remove (City Code Sec. 82-20(h)). That goes in a roll-off.
How much does a dumpster cost in Dothan?
It depends on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the rental length, the disposal weight and the delivery location. Our pricing is flat rate with no hidden fees. Call (334) 686-0763 for a quote.
